Actress and television host Kris Aquino said she would be open to an appointment at the Department of Health (DOH) if she enters politics, citing her experience with medication costs and the need to make medicines more affordable for Filipinos.

In an interview with her old friend and television host Boy Abunda on Wednesday, Oct. 28, Aquino said she would prefer an appointed government position over an elective post.

“If ever, sana ma-appoint ako ng kung sino man ang mahahalal na maging DOH,” Aquino said, explaining that her personal experiences had given her insight into the challenges faced by patients.

She said lowering medicine prices would already make a significant difference in the lives of Filipinos.

Aquino also suggested reducing taxes on imported medicines to help make them more affordable.

“By not taxing the importation of medicine so high, we can already make it so affordable,” she said.

Abunda, meanwhile, said he would consider serving the country in an appointed position if given the opportunity, recalling that former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III had previously considered placing him in the Department of Tourism.

Aquino also stressed the importance of honesty among public servants, saying Filipinos deserved officials who would serve with integrity.

“I would think we deserve honest public servants,” she said.
