The New York Knicks are making history — and they did it on the road on the biggest stage of the season.
Jalen Brunson scored 30 points as the Knicks pulled away late to defeat the San Antonio Spurs, 105-95, in Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals on Thursday (PH time), seizing a 1-0 series lead.
The victory marked New York’s 12th straight win of the postseason, making them just the third team in NBA history to achieve the feat. They join the 2017 Golden State Warriors, who won 15 consecutive playoff games, and the 1999 Spurs, who won 12 in a row.
Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while OG Anunoby chipped in 17 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Knicks finished strong after a tightly contested first three quarters.
San Antonio controlled the early tempo and took a 55-48 lead into halftime behind a balanced effort. The Spurs maintained their edge through much of the third quarter before New York surged to tie the game at 76-all heading into the fourth.
The Knicks then dominated the final period, outscoring the Spurs 29-19 to secure the win.
Victor Wembanyama led San Antonio with 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, but the Spurs struggled to keep pace down the stretch.
The Knicks will look to extend their streak and tighten their grip on the series in Game 2 on Saturday, June 6 (PH time).
