Klay Thompson is expected to join the Miami Heat after reaching a buyout agreement with the Dallas Mavericks, according to reports.
Thompson will become a free agent after clearing waivers. The five-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion averaged 11.7 points and 2.1 rebounds for Dallas this past season.
The 36-year-old spent his first 13 seasons with Golden State, winning four championships alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Despite missing two full seasons because of major knee and Achilles injuries, Thompson remains one of the NBA's premier 3-point shooters.
He has averaged 19.6 points and shot 41% from beyond the arc over his career. Thompson currently ranks fourth in NBA history with 2,899 made 3-pointers, behind Curry, James Harden and Ray Allen.
Thompson's move to Miami would add veteran championship experience and elite perimeter shooting to the Heat's roster.
