Senator Kiko Pangilinan has urged the Senate to postpone the plenary vote on the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to Pangilinan, the case remains unresolved until the House of Representatives acts on the Motion for Reconsideration (MR). He emphasized that delaying the Senate vote would be appropriate, especially since 19 to 20 senators from the majority bloc are reportedly inclined to respect the Supreme Court's ruling.
These senators, Pangilinan said, are willing to wait for the resolution of the MR before proceeding, to ensure that their actions align with a definitive legal decision.
"So if 19 or 20 are to abide by the ruling of the SC, we should, at the very least, hold in abeyance any vote to dismiss until the MR is resolved so the Senate will know exactly what final ruling we are to abide by and respect," said Pangilinan.
However, Senator Jinggoy Estrada earlier stated that the Supreme Court's decision—declaring the articles of impeachment against the Vice President unconstitutional—should already be considered final and followed.
The Senate is scheduled to convene in plenary on August 6 for the impeachment vote.
