Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa on Thursday has voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Cebu following the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him for a murder case, according to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort on DZRH's Public Service Hour.

NBI head agent and spokesperson Palmer Mallari confirmed to DZRH News that Espinosa surrendered after an arrest warrant was issued by the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 14.

Aside from Espinosa, two other co-accused also surrendered and are now under the custody of the NBI-Cebu office.

Authorities have yet to disclose the details and background of the murder charge filed against Espinosa and his co-accused, as investigations are still ongoing.

In a video message released to the public, Espinosa informed his supporters of his voluntary surrender and asked them to pray for his safety amid the legal battle he is facing.

Earlier, during a Facebook Live broadcast, Espinosa said he is currently on a leave of absence from his post as mayor of Albuera due to security threats.
