House private prosecutor Atty. Lorna Kapunan invoked “Superman” during her direct examination of COA-ICFAO State Auditor Xylene Del Campo on Day 14 of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial on Tuesday, August 11.

Kapunan was questioning Del Campo about who should have disbursed the confidential funds under the applicable rules. Del Campo identified Department of Education (DepEd) Special Disbursing Officer Edward Fajarda as the official responsible for the disbursement.

Kapunan then made a reference to the Marvel Comics superhero while questioning Fajarda’s ability to supposedly be present in different places.

“Kung hindi man Superman ang isang SDO, kaya ba niyang puntahan? Sa palagay mo, lahat na ito,” Kapunan asked.

When defense counsel Kristine Ferrer objected, saying the question was speculative and hypothetical, Kapunan defended the reference.

“What is speculative about Superman? He can fly anywhere in one day,” Kapunan said.

Presiding Officer Sen. Chiz Escudero then directed Kapunan to move on with her questioning.

“Counsel, move on. Move on, Counsel. We get your point,” Escudero said.

Before proceeding to her next question, Kapunan asked that her Superman remark remain part of the official record.

“Although, can we ask that Superman remain on record?” Kapunan said.

Escudero clarified that the statement had not been stricken from the record.

“We did not strike it off, Counsel. The Presiding Officer simply asked you to move on,” Escudero said.

The exchange came as the prosecution examined Del Campo’s findings on the handling and liquidation of confidential funds involving the Office of the Vice President and the DepEd.
