Kanlaon Volcano recorded two ash emission events early Sunday, October 11, with plumes rising up to 600 meters above the summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

In its social media posts, PHIVOLCS said an ash emission at 1:28 a.m. generated a plume that rose 400 meters above the summit crater before drifting northwest.

Another ash emission was observed at 5:15 a.m., producing a grayish plume that rose 600 meters above the summit crater before drifting generally westward.

The events were captured by thermal and IP cameras at the Canlaon City Observation Station, Mansalanao Observation Station and Upper Pantao Observation Station.

Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating increased unrest.

PHIVOLCS continues to prohibit entry into the four-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and flying aircraft close to the volcano due to the risk of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and other volcanic activity.

Kanlaon Volcano is located on Negros Island, between Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and monitor official PHIVOLCS advisories for further updates.
