Kanlaon Volcano recorded 45 volcanic earthquakes, including seven tremors lasting between three and 27 minutes, over a 24-hour monitoring period, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

In its advisory issued at 5 a.m. on April 16, PHIVOLCS said the volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating increased unrest and the possibility of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.

The agency also reported three ash emission events that lasted between 26 and 30 minutes. Moderate steam plumes rose as high as 400 meters before drifting southwest.

Sulfur dioxide emissions were measured at 1,113 tons per day on April 15, while ground deformation data indicated inflation or swelling of the volcano’s edifice, a sign of potential magma movement beneath the surface.

PHIVOLCS continues to monitor the situation and advised the public to remain vigilant, noting that entry into the volcano’s permanent danger zone remains strictly prohibited due to ongoing hazards.
