Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash anew on Saturday morning, with plumes rising about 500 meters above the crater, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

PHIVOLCS reported that the ash emission began at 5:58 a.m. and lasted until 9:02 a.m. on March 21, visual monitoring from camera stations in Canlaon City and La Castellana recorded the activity.

The agency also disclosed that four separate ash emission events occurred beginning 9:02 p.m. on Friday, March 20. These episodes lasted between 43 and 184 minutes, producing ash plumes that reached up to 500 meters and drifted toward the south and southwest.

“Four episodes of ash emission that lasted 43 to 184 minutes have occurred since 9:02 PM yesterday (Friday), producing 500-meter-tall ash plumes that drifted south and southwest,” PHIVOLCS said.

Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 2, indicating a moderate level of volcanic unrest. Authorities reiterated that entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to potential hazards such as sudden ash explosions and rockfall.
