Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash Thursday morning, generating a plume that rose 200 meters above the summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

As recorded by the Nature's View Observation Station (VKNV) in Sitio Old Fabrica, La Castellana, Phivolcs said the ash emission occurred at 5:24 AM.

"The event generated a grayish plume that rose 200 meters above the summit crater before creeping downslope towards east," the Phivolcs said in a social media post.

Meanwhile, in the 24-hour monitoring bulletin posted early August 20, the volcano recorded four volcanic earthquakes.

Kanlaon also released 1,386 tons of sulfur dioxide on Wednesday.

Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano.

Phivolcs continues to prohibit entry into the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around the volcano and has also advised against flying aircraft near the volcano.
