The volunteer group Cats of McKinley has issued a public update amid mounting online pressure over the death of “Ghost,” a well-known community cat in Taguig, emphasizing that the pursuit of justice is ongoing but will take time.

In a statement posted on social media, the group addressed criticism over the perceived lack of updates, explaining that legal processes cannot be rushed and that not all developments can be disclosed publicly as they may affect the case.

“Not all actions and small progress can be posted online,” the group said, adding that updates will be shared once there are “significant developments” and after completing required documentation.

Ghost died after being attacked by three huskies being walked by their owner in McKinley, Bonifacio Global City. The cat was rushed to a veterinary clinic but later succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident, which sparked widespread outrage online and calls for accountability.

Cats of McKinley confirmed they are continuing to coordinate with relevant parties and are gathering requirements to build the case. They also appealed for understanding, noting that volunteers managing the case also handle other rescued community cats.

The group further urged the public not to flood unrelated organizations, particularly “BGC Cats,” with messages, clarifying that Ghost was under their care.

In a separate message, the organization called for unity among supporters, saying, “We truly appreciate everyone’s concern… Let’s continue to stand together with compassion and focus on seeking justice in a respectful way.”

The incident has reignited discussions on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare laws in the Philippines. Under the Animal Welfare Act, pet owners may be held liable for negligence if their animals cause harm or death to other animals.

As the hashtag #JusticeForGhost continues to trend, the group reiterated its commitment to pursuing accountability while urging the public to remain patient and respectful as the legal process unfolds.
