Eight teams from four countries will clash in the inaugural NSAC World Invitational set from August 14 to 16, organizers announced, promising a high-level showcase of international basketball.

The tournament will feature top programs from the Philippines, Japan, Australia and Taiwan, highlighting what organizers described as “one unforgettable tournament” aimed at elevating regional competition.

Representing the Philippines are San Beda University, Far Eastern University, University of Santo Tomas, and newly crowned Filoil preseason champions Jose Rizal University, as local squads look to defend home court against foreign opposition.

Games will be played under FIBA rules, a move officials said is crucial in aligning local development with global standards.

“We need tough competitions to improve. And one way is to embrace FIBA rules, not just for our players but our coaches as well,” said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 3x3 project director Ryan Gregorio.

Gregorio added that the event also supports the country’s push to boost sports tourism by hosting international teams on home soil.

“This is also part of the country’s sports tourism program. We want to promote that, and it’s either we go out of the country or bring them over. Bringing them over is better for us,” he said.

The three-day tournament is expected to serve as a platform for cross-border competition and development, while giving Filipino fans a chance to witness international-level play up close.
