Sen. Jinggoy Estrada suffered a complete meniscus tear in his left knee, according to an examination by Cardinal Santos Medical Center on August 26.
The lawmaker was rushed to the hospital after his knee popped while he was getting up from a seated position at his detention cell at the New Quezon City Jail, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
According to orthopedic surgeon Dr. Fernando Syquia, the new injury is separate from the osteoarthritis that Estrada had previously been experiencing in his right knee.
The doctor added that both conditions require surgery, but for now, the patient was given painkillers and knee support.
The senator was transported back to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas at around 4:25 p.m.
Earlier, RH 5 Val Gonzales reported that Estrada had fallen after experiencing extreme pain in his knee while bathing as he prepared for his knee x-ray procedure.
