Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s camp has filed a motion for reconsideration seeking to overturn the Sandiganbayan’s denial of his motion to fix bail in connection with his plunder case over the alleged flood control mess.

In a 13-page motion filed on Monday, August 3, Estrada urged the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division to reconsider its earlier ruling rejecting his motion to fix bail amid a P573 million plunder charge filed against him, according to a report of RH Val Gonzales.

Estrada’s lawyers argued that the senator should not be considered a flight risk, noting that he remains an elected public official whose term runs until 2028. They also maintained that the prosecution has yet to establish strong evidence of guilt, which they said supports his request to be granted bail.

The defense also cited the Sandiganbayan's previous approvals of Estrada's overseas travel from 2023 to 2026 in relation to his pending plunder and graft cases.

According to the motion, the senator complied with all court-imposed travel conditions and consistently returned to the Philippines to face the charges against him.

The motion likewise highlighted Estrada's return from a medical consultation in Singapore in April 2026 despite a precautionary hold departure order issued against him by the Manila Regional Trial Court.

His camp also maintained that Estrada voluntarily surrendered to authorities after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for his arrest.

In light of these circumstances, Estrada's lawyers asked the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division to reconsider its July 24 resolution and grant his motion to fix bail, which was originally filed on June 29.
