Metro Manila Jeepney Operators and Drivers Associations (JODAs) on Monday underwent an orientation for the ₱10 per liter fuel subsidy rollout announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., according to a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.
The Department of Energy (DOE) said that the orientation aims to ensure the smooth implementation of the program amid a series of oil price hikes.
Over 50 gasoline stations in Metro Manila will initially take part in the program, said DOE Secretary Sharon Garin.
For now, only public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers will benefit from the pilot implementation of the initiative. Later on, she said, it will expand to accommodate other public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.
Garin said that no fewer than 20,000 jeepney drivers in Metro Manila will benefit. However, the subsidy is capped at 150 liters per week for a period of three months.
The subsidy is expected to aid over 142,000 jeepney and UV Express unit driver-beneficiaries nationwide when the initiative is broadened to other types of public vehicle drivers.
The orientation was led by the DOE, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and Land Bank.
