Several jeepney drivers in Pasay City have been forced to reduce their daily trips as persistently high diesel prices continue to strain their income, according to local transport workers.

According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort on DZRH's Dos Por Dos on Wednesday, drivers said they previously completed around 10 to 15 trips per day, but this has now dropped to just about four trips. One driver explained that the situation has become unsustainable for many in the sector.

“Apat na ikot siguro, hindi na namin makakaya. Nahinto rin ang ibang mga driver, titigil na rin,” one jeepney driver said.

Despite recent fuel price rollbacks, diesel in some gas stations in Pasay City remains above ₱90 per liter, with some reaching up to ₱100.

Drivers said that most of their earnings are immediately spent on boundary fees and fuel costs, leaving little to nothing to take home for their families.

“Hindi katulad dati na medyo malaki [ang kita], ngayon mahirap na kami, nahihirapan…Depende na lang sa diskarte namin para magkapera,” another driver said.

Some drivers shared that they are lucky if they can bring home around ₱300 a day, an amount they say is not enough to support household expenses and their children’s education.

The ongoing fuel cost pressure has also led to reduced operations among some transport workers, with others considering temporarily stopping work altogether.

Meanwhile, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced on April 16, 2026, that 46 gasoline stations along major Metro Manila routes have started offering a ₱10-per-liter fuel subsidy for eligible passenger jeepney and UV Express drivers.

However, some drivers said their routes are not covered by the subsidy program, leaving them without relief from high fuel costs.
