Former newscaster Jay Sonza has posted bail at the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 118, according to a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort on Monday.

Sonza’s lawyer, Atty. Mark Tolentino, said his client’s ₱10,000 bail for his unlawful publication case in connection with the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 was already being processed.

Tolentino said that before Monday noon, Sonza may be temporarily freed after returning for now to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility in Muntinlupa City.

The lawyer said that Sonza’s arraignment was delayed because they had filed a motion to dismiss the charges against him. The Pasay court has requested the Department of Justice (DOJ), who had pressed the charges, to respond to the motion within 10 days; if they should fail to do so, the case will be submitted for resolution, Tolentino said.

Another arrest warrant against the former broadcaster is said to be issued by the Pasay RTC today, the lawyer added, this time in relation to a cyberlibel case. Sonza’s camp, however, will promptly post bail, he said.
