The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has honored Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri for his sustained efforts in deepening bilateral relations between the Philippines and Japan.
The recognition was conferred during a reception at the Japanese Embassy in Manila hosted by Ambassador Endo Kazuya in celebration of Zubiri’s receipt of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, one of Japan’s highest state honors, which was awarded to him by Emperor Naruhito in November 2025.
Zubiri was cited for championing key agreements and legislation that have advanced cooperation between the two countries, including the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA), the CREATE MORE Act, and the Reciprocal Access Agreement.
In his remarks, Zubiri described Japan as the Philippines’ “best friend” and a vital partner in security and defense, trade and investment, culture, and tourism. He pledged to carry the honor with humility and continue promoting a strategic economic partnership aimed at peace, unity, and development—not only between the Philippines and Japan, but across the broader region.
