Palace Press Officer Claire Castro on Wednesday hit back at Senator Imee Marcos over her remark calling the former an “impakta” or harsh or cruel.

Castro said that if Senator Marcos is offended by her efforts to combat the false narratives her camp upholds, her team illustrates exactly what the word means to convey.

“It takes one to know one. Kaya kung sila ay affected sa aking mga nababanggit dahil tayo ay kumakalaban sa fake news at iyan ang kanilang pananaw. Isang ‘impakta’ ang kumalaban sa fake news, sino ngayon ang naglalarawan ng totoong ‘impakta’? Iyong gumawa ng video, iyong kasama sa video, iyong nagdirek ng video, iyon ang masasabi nating totoong naglalarawan ng salitang iyan,” she said.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) undersecretary said she will not rob Senator Marcos of the “impakta” crown, as she is not a fraction of the word.

“Huwag silang mag-alala ang korona ay nasa kanila—na kay Senator Imee at sa mga grupo nila at hindi natin kayang agawin ito mula sa kanila. Wala ako sa kalingkingan ni Senator Imee para sa ganiyang klaseng deskripsyon. Sila ay nasa maximum level,” Castro said.

The statement stems from a comment Senator Marcos made in a video. She said that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is in trouble, with U.S. President Donald Trump having slammed the international court for issuing “baseless” warrants against his allies.

She said the Malacañang too, has an ICC, with the “I” standing for “impakta.” The rest of the initialism matches up with the Palace officials’ initials, “CC,” leading media to believe Marcos’ remark concerned her.
