Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso suspended classes in all levels, for both public and private schools, as well as work in government offices, on January 9 in anticipation of the Feast of Jesus Nazarene.
Under Executive Order No. 1 for the year 2026, Domagoso said this suspension was to give way for devotees to participate in the Traslacion, annually attended by millions of believers.
Meanwhile, essential frontline services—including those for maintaining peace and order, traffic enforcement, disaster risk reduction, and health—will continue throughout the event.
Domagoso said suspension for the national government and private companies is up to the discretion of their management.
He also signed Executive Order No. 2, which imposes a liquor ban on the same day, within a 500-meter radius of the Quiapo Church and the entire Traslacion route.
The liquor ban prohibits selling and drinking beverages with alcohol in order to maintain order and respect the religious event.
The Manila Police District and other law enforcement agencies were tasked to strictly implement the liquor ban.
The Manila mayor also issued Executive Order No. 3, imposing a total firecracker ban—prohibiting the production, sale, distribution, and usage of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices—from January 8-9 for the whole city, to avoid injuries and fires.
The image of Jesus Nazarene has been brought to the Quirino Grandstand for “pahalik.”
