Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso led the ceremonial lighting of the restored façade of the historic Juan Luna Building on February 19, calling for renewed efforts to revive heritage landmarks in Binondo.

Also present during the event were Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, Manila Chinatown Development Council Executive Director Tony Sy, and Benito Techico, the Special Envoy of the President of the Philippines to China for Trade, Investments, and Tourism. Private partner Ben Yu, along with city councilors and department heads from the Manila City Government, also attended the ceremony.

The Juan Luna Building, also known as the Juan Luna Plaza and Ayala Building, is considered one of Manila’s most significant heritage landmarks. Constructed in 1922, it previously housed offices of major international firms and banks, including the Pacific Commercial Company and the First National City Bank of New York.

City officials said the restoration of the building was made possible through the collaboration between the local government and private sector partners, further enhancing its role as a symbol of Manila’s rich architectural heritage and ongoing efforts to revitalize historic sites in Binondo.

The ceremonial lighting marks a new chapter in the preservation and restoration of the city’s historic structures, as the local government continues to promote the protection and appreciation of Manila’s cultural landmarks.
