The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday, December 9, assured that flood control projects affected by terminated or legally challenged contractors are continuing under new firms.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon cited the example of the Discayas, whose contracts were terminated due to alleged irregularities, but noted that replacement contractors have already taken over to keep work on track.
“Talagang terminate na natin yan. Pero kahit na yung mga terminate natin, nag-award na tayo ng mga panibago,” Dizon said. “Ang objective natin dito dapat tuloy-tuloy pa rin yung construction kasi kailangan po ng ekonomiya yan at kailangan ng mga kababayan natin yan.”
Dizon also addressed reports that district engineering offices are hesitating to approve payroll amid recent construction-related arrests in MIMAROPA, assuring that employees following proper procedures will not face penalties.
Payments will be made only for work properly executed, and contractors are urged to comply with regulations and avoid past irregular practices.
“Basta maayos ang gawa, maayos ang trabaho. Wala kayong dapat ikatakot. Mababayaran kayo ng tama,” he added.
Looking ahead, Dizon said public works spending is expected to increase in 2026, while the DPWH will continue to monitor projects to ensure quality, compliance, and timely progress.
