The religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) clarified that its three-day protest against corruption is not an act of interference in politics, but a call for better governance.
In the report of RH 29 Boy Gonzalez, the Minister of INC, Bienvenido Santiago Jr., emphasized that the ongoing peace rally with the theme “Transparency for a Better Democracy” is focused on calling for reforms in existing government processes, especially amid the controversy surrounding the alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
The INC expressed four main calls as per the report of Gonzales:
• Transparency — opening the investigation on alleged irregularities in flood-control projects to the public to ensure that nothing is being concealed and that the law is not being distorted.
• Accountability — holding all those proven to be involved in corruption responsible, and recovering any funds allegedly taken from the people.
• Justice — ensuring justice for the victims of widespread flooding, including making sure that the law is not twisted to cover up for anyone, and identifying the mastermind behind any corruption.
• Peace — calling for the preservation of peace and the avoidance of any violence or disorder while the nation addresses the issues at hand.
Meanwhile, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Manila, the mass demonstration held in Quirino Grandstand has reached a crowd of approximately 650,000 as of 6 p.m.
The three-day protest will end on Tuesday, November 18.
