Senate President Francis "Chiz" G. Escudero informed House of Representative Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez that the Senate is prepared to receive the House’s panel of prosecutors for reading the impeachment charges against Vice President Sara Duterte on June 2, 2025.

“Pursuant to Rule I of the Rules of Procedure on Impeachment Trials, we would like to inform your good office that, having taken proper order on the impeachment of Vice-President Sara Z. Duterte, the Senate shall be ready to receive the House of Representatives’ panel of prosecutors at 4 o’clock in the afternoon of June 2, 2025,” Escudero wrote in a letter dated May 19, 2025.

“As stated in our letter dated February 24, 2025, the Senate shall expect the prosecution to read the seven charges under the Articles of Impeachment in open session,” Escudero said in the letter.

The Senate’s announcement follows a previously issued letter dated February 24, 2025, indicating preparations for the impeachment process. According to Escudero, the charges against Vice President Duterte will be read in an open session prior to the full trial.

Following this, the Senate will transition into an impeachment court to issue the summons and any other necessary orders related to the case to formally initiate the trial process on June 3.

“Thereafter, the Senate shall be convened as an impeachment court at 9 o’clock in the morning of June 3, 2025 for the purpose of issuing the summons and such other relevant orders."

A copy of the letter was also furnished to the Vice President, formally notifying her of the developments in the impeachment process.

Duterte has yet to release a statement regarding the Senate’s notice.

Meanwhile, the Senate President has earlier shared a timetable for VP Sara’s impeachment trial.

The impeachment case arose from accusations against Sara Duterte involving alleged irregularities in the use of P612.5 million in confidential funds in 2022, as well as her public threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
