The three impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte are expected to be included in the order of business of the House of Representatives’ plenary session this afternoon, Wednesday, February 11, according to a report by RH Milky Rigonan.
If the complaints are read in the plenary, they will be referred to the House Committee on Justice, chaired by Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro, for the scheduling of hearings.
However, the process could also be expedited under a “fast-track mode.” Under this procedure, if the complaints are not immediately referred to the committee, only a one-third vote of the House members is required to directly elevate the case to the Senate.
The three complaints have already been filed with Secretary General Cheloy Garafil and received by the Office of the House Speaker.
The complaints include:
-
The first complaint was filed by former Representatives France Castro, Neri Colmenares, and others, endorsed by the Makabayan bloc.
-
A second complaint from civil society organizations led by Kiko Aquino Dy of Tindig Pilipinas, endorsed by Representatives Leila de Lima and Perci Cendaña.
-
The third complaint filed by lawyers, civil society organizations, and religious groups, also endorsed by Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima.
The complainants assert that they have strong evidence, citing documents and testimonies, to support their allegations against the Vice President.
Additionally, the complaints point to what they describe as misconduct unbecoming of the nation’s second-highest official, including alleged verbal attacks and threats against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
