Senator Imee Marcos said she will not attend President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) in person on Monday, July 27.

Although she will be listening to President Marcos’ speech, Senator Marcos has opted out of attending. She admitted to harboring resentment towards her brother for allegedly targeting the members of the Senate Minority bloc.

“Okay lang, pakikinggan. ‘Yun nga lang, masama ang loob namin dahil nga pinagkukulong, kinakasuhan ang minority. ‘Yun lang. Parang ‘di ko kaya, e. Masama ang loob ko diyan, e,” she told reporters, adding that she was also absent from the 2025 SONA.

In an earlier video statement, the President’s sister pointed out that the Filipino people must be well aware of the country’s status.

“Ang SONA ay State of the Nation, na sa tingin ko naman, alam na ng lahat ang estado ng ating bansa,” she said.

With his constituents highly cognizant of the country’s current state, President Marcos is urged to action.

“Ang tanong ngayon, sa SONA ay, ‘So, ano na?’” Senator Imee asked.

Apart from serving as the President’s report on the current state of local affairs, he is to outline government achievements and pitch urgent laws to Congress.

Last year, President Marcos denounced corrupt practices linked to anomalies in flood control projects, resulting in faulty public infrastructure that failed to protect communities from the onslaught of typhoons such as Crising and Dante.

At present, at least 45 individuals are now facing charges related to the far-reaching irregularities, including two incumbent lawmakers, two former congressmen, and 33 former officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), according to reports.

Many of the Minority senators, aside from Senator Marcos, will not attend this year’s SONA. Among the names she mentioned include Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, Loren Legarda, and Robin Padilla.
