Former Office of the Vice President (OVP) special disbursing officer Gina Acosta became emotional when senator-judge Imee Marcos asked about the condition of her husband during clarificatory questioning on the 17th day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial on Monday.

Marcos asked Acosta about her husband, whom she had visited in Davao City while undergoing treatment.

“Kamusta yung asawa ninyo na binisita ninyo, alam ko undergoing treatment sa Davao?” Marcos asked.

“Hindi po maganda, ma’am. I’m sorry po,” Acosta replied, appearing emotional.

Earlier in the questioning, Marcos asked Acosta whether she knew if Duterte had taken, claimed or personally appropriated even a single centavo from the confidential funds under scrutiny.

“Pwede mo bang sabihin o alam kung kinuha, inangkin, inagaw ni VP kahit isang sentimo nitong confidential funds?” Marcos asked.

“Hindi ko nakita, ma’am,” Acosta said.

Marcos also sought clarification on Acosta’s responsibilities as a special disbursing officer, particularly in preparing liquidation and supporting documents for submission to the Commission on Audit and other government officials.

Acosta confirmed that preparing the documents was among her responsibilities.

Marcos then asked whether Acosta had noticed anything suspicious, irregular or questionable in the documents she handled.

Acosta said she found documents that lacked a name, signature and date, but said she verified the matter with OVP security officer Col. Raymund Lachica.

Marcos asked whether Acosta corrected or completed the deficiencies and whether she knew if Duterte was aware that the supporting documents had deficiencies or errors.

“Wala akong alam,” Acosta replied.

Acosta earlier testified about the handling and release of confidential funds during Duterte’s tenure as vice president. Her testimony forms part of the House prosecution’s presentation of evidence in the impeachment case against Duterte.
