The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has yet to receive copies of the Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) of several candidates from the 2022 national and local elections, according to its executive director, Atty. Brian Hosaka.
In a report by DZRH’s Jecelle Ricafort, Hosaka said the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has not yet turned over the requested documents. Comelec Chairman George Garcia earlier disclosed that the records sought to include the SOCEs of seven former senatorial candidates, as well as several incumbent senators.
This development comes as COMELEC directed 27 government contractors to explain their alleged campaign contributions to candidates in the May 2022 polls. The ICI is looking into the matter as part of its broader investigation into alleged large-scale corruption in infrastructure projects, including flood control initiatives.
The Omnibus Election Code prohibits individuals or entities holding government contracts or subcontracts for public works or services from directly or indirectly engaging in partisan political activities, including making campaign contributions.
