Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan is of the opinion that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is as good as dismantled with the resignation of two of three commissioners: former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson and public accountant Rossana Fajardo.
Singson’s resignation took effect on December 15, and Fajardo’s will take effect on the 31st. Singson cited the “intense” and “stressful” nature of the commission’s work, which has taken a toll on his health, while Fajardo believes she has completed the work her role entails.
“I have completed the work I set out to accomplish when I was appointed,” she said.
Although Pangilinan acknowledged that the commission was able to submit valuable recommendations to the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice (DOJ), he said the proposed Independent People’s Commission (IPC) must be fast-tracked so that it may take over the work the ICI will leave behind, reported RH 28 Raymund Dadpaas.
The ICI was established by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to investigate “ghost” or non-existent and substandard flood control projects on September 11.
