International Criminal Court (ICC) Common Legal Representative for the Victims Atty. Gilbert Andres on Friday described Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent remarks against the ICC as "gaslighting," following Duterte's claim that the tribunal had become a "puppet" of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Reacting to Duterte’s criticism of the ICC, Andres rejected the allegation that the tribunal was being influenced by Philippine political figures, emphasizing that the court remains focused on delivering justice and accountability.

“What VP Sara is doing is big time na gaslighting of the ICC and it shows that she does not respect institutions of accountability such as the ICC,” Andres said.

He stressed that the ICC is not involved in Philippine politics but is carrying out its mandate to pursue justice, establish the truth, and ensure accountability in relation to its investigation into the country's anti-drug campaign.

According to Andres, Duterte’s remarks undermine institutions that are tasked with holding individuals accountable for alleged international crimes.

Andres made the statement after filing a motion to resolve before the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with victims of alleged war crimes in Myanmar, whom he also represents as legal counsel.

The ICC continues its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during the Duterte administration's war on drugs, while the Philippine government has repeatedly maintained its position on the tribunal's jurisdiction over the country.
