Filipino tennis star Alex Eala was honored by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. at a Malacañang Palace homecoming dinner Monday night following her historic run at Wimbledon.

Eala, 21, admitted to feeling a rare bout of stage fright speaking alongside the president, but expressed deep gratitude for the state recognition after reaching the Grand Slam’s Round of 16.

"I feel like all the hard work that I've done is seen," Eala said. "All the hours that aren't on TV are seen and validated and appreciated."

Marcos praised Eala for representing the "best of our country" on the global stage. Eala, now ranked a career-high world No. 28, dedicated her success to her home nation.

"I'm so grateful that I am able to share my triumphs, most especially my recent run at Wimbledon, with the country," Eala said. "Sabi nga natin, tagumpay ito nating lahat (As we say, this is a victory for all of us)."

Eala vowed to continue carrying the Philippine flag proudly as she prepares for the upcoming US Open.
