A groundbreaking moment in the world of K-Pop occurred at this year’s Grammy Awards, as K-Pop Demon Hunters’ “Golden” won the Best Song Written for Visual Media award, marking K-Pop’s first-ever Grammy win.

The announcement was made during the Recording Academy’s pre-telecast section on Monday, February 2 (Philippine time).

Among those who went up on stage to receive the award is HUNTR/X’s EJAE, alongside Park Hong Jun, Joong Gyu Kwak, Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Mark Sonnenblick.

EJAE is the singing voice of Rumi, one of the members of HUNTR/X, along with Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, who is the singing voice of Mira and Zoey, respectively.

Recently, ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ won Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. During her acceptance speech, EJAE became emotional and shared her insight on rejection and redirection.

“I just wanna say, this award goes out to people who’ve had their doors closed at them, and that I can confidently say that rejection is redirection. So never give up, and it's never too late to shine like you were born to be,” EJAE expressed.

“Golden” received four nominations this year, namely: Best Song Written for Visual Media, Song of the Year, Best Pop/Duo Performance, and Best Remixed Recording. Although the track was the first to win a Grammy, this is not the first time K-Pop has been recognized by the prestigious award-giving body.

In 2021, global K-Pop sensation BTS became the first K-pop act to perform at and be nominated for a Grammy. However, the group has yet to win.

“Golden” is also nominated for the upcoming Oscar in March.
