House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Monday welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for a special session of Congress on June 17, saying the chamber is prepared to immediately act on priority measures aimed at strengthening social protection, education, and healthcare services for Filipino families.

“The House of Representatives stands ready to heed the president's call and continue advancing legislation that directly responds to the needs of our people,” Dy said.

The President, through Proclamation No. 1318, urged Congress to reconvene to tackle key bills, including reforms in education assistance programs, healthcare services for senior citizens, social welfare initiatives, and measures for geographically isolated and disadvantaged communities.

Dy noted that all measures identified for the special session have already been approved by the House, underscoring its readiness to complete the legislative process once the Senate acts on the same priorities.

Before adjourning sine die on June 3, the House had already acted on 26 measures under the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) Common Legislative Agenda. These include one enacted law, one measure approved in bicameral conference, three undergoing bicameral deliberations, and 21 approved on third and final reading.

Out of 52 LEDAC priority measures, half have already been acted upon by the House, reflecting what Dy described as the chamber’s “commitment to advancing reforms that benefit Filipino families.”

Among the priority bills listed for the special session are the National Center for Geriatric Health Act, amendments to the GASTPE law, assistance programs for individuals in crisis, reforms in tertiary education access, and measures supporting schools in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos also expressed support for the President’s move, calling it a reflection of the administration’s urgency in addressing social protection and development concerns.

“The President’s call underscores the urgency of legislation that expands educational opportunities, strengthens assistance programs for vulnerable sectors, improves healthcare services, and promotes greater social protection,” Marcos said.

He added that the House remains committed to working with the Senate and the Executive branch to ensure the passage of high-impact reforms that will translate into “better lives, better opportunities, and a more secure future for Filipinos.”
