House prosecutor Rep. Lorenz Defensor described the second day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial as a significant development, saying the prosecution was able to properly present evidence before the Senate impeachment court.

In a press conference after Tuesday’s proceedings, Defensor said the testimony of their witness and the court’s decision to allow the presentation of evidence showed fairness and impartiality in the trial.

"Yes, malaking puntos itong araw na ito. Ang aming testigo ay nakapaglabas ng ebidensya sa mahusay na pamamaraan ng ating private prosecutor, and it's also a victory for all camps because the court was very clear in allowing the evidence to be presented," Defensor said.

Defensor praised the Senate impeachment court and Presiding Officer Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero for what he described as a fair and balanced handling of the proceedings.

"Naging patas at naging pantay ang Senate Impeachment Court at ang presiding officer. Matagal na natin gusto ito para hindi pagsabihan ng mga Pilipino na impartial, na hindi impartial ang Senate Impeachment Court. So they acted with impartiality. They acted with integrity," he added.

The House prosecution panel continues to present its evidence in support of the impeachment charges against Vice President Duterte, while the defense maintains that it will challenge the allegations through the proceedings.
