The House prosecution team distanced itself from allegations suggesting that the arrest of Senator Rodante Marcoleta was timed to coincide with the first day of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

House prosecution spokesperson Atty. Benjamin Tolosa said the case against Marcoleta has been pending for a long time and should not be linked to the impeachment proceedings currently underway.

Tolosa emphasized that the development should not affect the impeachment trial, noting that the public has long awaited the opportunity to hear the defense’s side in the case.

Meanwhile, House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil and Senate Clerk of Court Atty. Renato Bantug was seen inspecting the media working area to assess possible improvements for journalists covering the proceedings.

The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte continues as scheduled amid heightened public and media attention.
