The House prosecution panel has announced that it will first present evidence related to an alleged assassination plot, grave threats, and inciting sedition against the government in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to House prosecution legal spokesperson Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, the panel has finalized the sequence of evidence it will present before the impeachment court, in compliance with the court’s directive.
Adiong said the presentation will begin with Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment, which covers allegations of an assassination plot, grave threats, and inciting sedition.
“Article 4, assassination plot, grave threats, and inciting sedition against the government,” Adiong said, outlining the order of presentation.
This will be followed by Article I on alleged misuse or misappropriation of confidential funds, Article III on bribery and corruption within the Department of Education (DepEd), and Article II involving unexplained wealth, false statements, and continued business interests.
“Article 1, misuse of confidential funds,” he added, as part of the panel’s structured presentation plan.
Aside from the sequencing of evidence, the prosecution panel also asked the court to require the defense to clarify the purpose of adopting certain prosecution witnesses, noting what it described as a general denial strategy so far.
Adiong explained that the panel is seeking specificity on why the defense intends to include prosecution-listed witnesses in its own witness lineup.
“We want to specify exactly what would be the purpose by which the defense decided to include these witnesses,” Adiong said, emphasizing the need for clearer identification of their intended role in the defense’s case.
The prosecution’s submission, filed before the court, forms part of its pre-trial preparations as the impeachment proceedings move forward.
