The House of Representatives' Committee on Justice is set to decide on the sufficiency in substance of two impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte as it convenes for the second day of hearings, as reported by RH Milky Rigonan

In her opening statement, Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro, Chair of the committee, said it is their duty to thoroughly examine the documents and determine whether the allegations against the Vice President have sufficient basis.

Luistro also took a swipe at a fellow lawmaker whom she accused of pre-empting the outcome of the hearings, though she did not mention any name. The remark appeared to be directed at SAGIP Party-list Representative Paolo Henry Marcoleta.

She emphasized that members of the committee must rely on evidence — not on premonitions, fortune tellers, or speculation — in deciding the fate of the impeachment complaints.

Luistro noted that the third impeachment complaint consists of 98 pages, while the fourth complaint runs 72 pages. The panel will vote on whether the complaints are sufficient in form and substance, a key step before the proceedings can move forward.

Meanwhile, in other developments at the House, the Anti-Political Dynasty bill has been approved at the committee level by the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.

Lawmakers adopted the version backed by House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III and House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos, which limits political dynasties up to the second degree of consanguinity. The measure was approved with 40 votes in favor and four against.
