The House Justice Committee has summoned Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla to appear at its April 14 hearing to provide financial documents linked to impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The subpoena, signed by House Speaker Faustino Dy III, Justice Comittee Chair Gerville Luistro, and House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil, directs Remulla to submit certified true copies of Duterte’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
These records will cover multiple periods, including 2007–2013, 2016–2022, and 2022–2025.
From a governance and data-analysis perspective, the SALN serves as a key transparency tool, allowing investigators to track changes in declared wealth over time. By examining trends, inconsistencies, and proportional growth in assets versus income, analysts can identify potential anomalies or “wealth gaps.”
Lawmakers aim to scrutinize Duterte’s financial disclosures throughout her public service, applying systematic review methods similar to forensic accounting.
Bicol Saro Partylist representative Terry Ridon previously raised concerns over an alleged ₱50-million unexplained increase in net worth, noting that Duterte’s declared wealth rose from ₱18.49 million in 2008 to ₱88.51 million in 2024.
The upcoming hearing is expected to focus on validating these figures, assessing documentation consistency, and determining whether the financial data aligns with legal and ethical standards for public officials.
