The House Committee on Justice has approved a motion to subpoena former senator Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV, requiring him to appear and testify in the next hearing on April 22, on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The motion, introduced by ML Party-list Representative Leila de Lima, also directs Trillanes to submit documents related to allegations of unexplained wealth and the alleged non-disclosure of assets in Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
Trillanes was cited in one of the complaints due to his previous claims involving bank deposits allegedly under Duterte’s name, as well as accounts she purportedly shares with her father, husband, and siblings.
In addition, the committee approved a separate motion by Akbayan Partylist Rep. Perci Cendaña to summon the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to provide reports and documents on covered and suspicious transactions flagged by banks involving the vice president and her husband, Manases Carpio, covering the period from 2006 to 2025.
The issuance of subpoenas and requests for financial records signals an intensified inquiry by lawmakers into the allegations raised in the impeachment complaints, as the panel continues to assess whether there are sufficient grounds to move the case forward under constitutional procedures.
