The House Justice Committee is being urged to expedite the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte following a recent survey showing overwhelming public support for a formal Senate trial.

Based on the latest Tangere survey, 88 percent of Filipinos favor bringing the vice president to a Senate impeachment court to answer allegations against her, particularly on issues involving the alleged misuse of confidential funds and unexplained wealth.

The same survey indicated strong public belief that Duterte should personally confront the accusations in a formal legal setting.

House Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V said the results cannot be ignored, stressing that the sentiment reflects a broader public demand for accountability.

He noted that the call for a trial is no longer limited to critics but represents a clear expectation from the majority of Filipinos for due process and transparency.

According to Ortega, the growing public pressure adds weight to the ongoing work of the House Justice panel as it nears the conclusion of its impeachment hearings.

He said lawmakers are now confronted not only with the evidence presented but also with what he described as a strong public demand for the Vice President to directly address the allegations in a proper forum.

The survey results also showed that respondents believe a Senate impeachment trial would provide the appropriate venue for Duterte to defend herself and respond to the accusations.

As the proceedings approach their final stages, House officials acknowledged that public opinion is becoming a significant factor in the push to conclude the case, with calls intensifying for the vice president to finally face the Senate impeachment court and present her defense.
