The House of Representatives’ Deca-Tri Committee, also known as the Legislative Energy Action Development (LEAD) Council, held a hearing this week to address the ongoing oil price crisis and explore long-term energy reforms.
House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III emphasized that the session aims to provide targeted assistance to vulnerable sectors while developing sustainable solutions to prevent recurring disruptions in energy supply and economic stability.
Dy also said that the country needs long-term energy reform, economic measures, and supply security so that crises like this do not repeatedly hit the public
Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin reported that the country’s petroleum supply remains sufficient despite tensions in the Middle East.
Current reserves include 57 days of gasoline, 47 days of diesel, 106 days of kerosene, and 33 days of LPG. To strengthen energy security, the government plans to purchase an additional two million barrels of oil for national storage.
The hearing was attended by officials from the DOE, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), all working with Congress to mitigate the crisis and implement reforms in the energy sector.
