Allegations of supposed text message exchanges between President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and former Undersecretary Adrian Bersamin regarding a reported flood control anomaly will remain hearsay unless formally confirmed, a House leader said.
Terry Ridon, chair of the House Committee on Public Accounts, emphasized that the claims cannot be given weight without direct authentication from Bersamin. His statement came following reports that aside from a written affidavit, a video containing an “affidavit of information” allegedly links the president to irregularities in flood control projects.
Ridon stressed that given the gravity of the accusations, substantial and verifiable evidence must be presented. He noted that unauthenticated documents and secondhand accounts, described as double or even triple hearsay, are insufficient grounds for formal proceedings.
The lawmaker added that it is up to Bersamin to confirm or deny the alleged exchanges to establish credibility. Without such confirmation, the claims remain unsubstantiated.
Meanwhile, separate political developments are expected in the House of Representatives, as three impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte are set to be included in the Order of Business on Wednesday.
