The leadership of the House of Representatives expressed condolences following the passing of Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile.
RH Milky Rigonan reports that in a statement, House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III said that with Enrile’s passing, the nation has lost a public servant who dedicated over five decades of his life to public service.
Dy described Enrile as a true leader and a steadfast pillar of the nation.
Former House Speaker and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez also paid tribute, noting that Enrile’s sharp legal mind and focus on national issues earned him respect even from political opponents. Romualdez emphasized that Enrile’s long years of public service are a testament to resilience and duty—qualities that should inspire today’s young politicians.
As a mark of respect, the Philippine flag at the House of Representatives was flown at half-mast.
Enrile served as Representative of Cagayan’s 1st District from 1992 to 1995 and as Senate President from 2008 to 2013.
