To address potential threats to students’ safety on campus, the House of Representatives has sought to mandate the installation of CCTV cameras and the implementation of security plans in all schools nationwide.
House Bill No. 11575, or the Campus Security Act, authored by Quezon City Fifth District Representative P.M. Vargas, comes amid an alarming rise in reported cases of school violence, including bullying, RH 12 Milky Rigonan reported.
If enacted into law, the measure would require schools to implement security measures, including developing and enforcing guidelines on access control and visitor management, as well as establishing emergency response protocols.
Recently, both the University of Santo Tomas (UST) and De La Salle University (DLSU) suspended or shifted to remote class set-ups due to bomb threats.
