

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution expressing condolences and solidarity with the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and nearby provinces on September 30, 2025, as reported by RH Milky Rigonan.
The resolution, introduced by Representatives Faustino “Bojie” Dy III, Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and Marcelino Libanan, was adopted on October 2. It conveys the chamber’s sympathy to the families of those killed, injured, and displaced by the earthquake.
The quake, which hit at 9:59 p.m. with an epicenter located 19 kilometers northeast of Bogo City, registered Intensity VIII in Northern Cebu. At least 72 people have been reported dead, hundreds injured, and thousands displaced, while homes, schools, government buildings, and heritage churches were damaged.
Authorities also reported landslides in Leyte and other areas, more than 500 aftershocks, and widespread power outages across Cebu, Leyte, Samar, and Bohol.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the deployment of government agencies to deliver rescue, medical, and relief operations. Cebu province has declared a state of calamity to facilitate assistance and rehabilitation efforts.
The House resolution further states that lawmakers will support initiatives for relief and recovery in the affected communities.
