The House of Representatives has pledged full backing for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s push for accountability, as lawmakers review alleged irregularities in infrastructure projects, particularly flood control initiatives.

Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez said Monday that the House is committed to transparency, stressing that it will not protect wrongdoers—even if they are lawmakers—and will base its investigations strictly on evidence.

“From the very start, I have made it clear: the House will not be a refuge for wrongdoing. Not even its own Members will be shielded if wrongdoing is proven. We will ensure that the process is fair, fact-based, and guided by the rule of law,” Romualdez said.

The House leader welcomed the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, describing it as a chance to improve government processes and restore public trust.

He also noted that committees have started reviewing procurement safeguards and monitoring project implementation to close loopholes and strengthen oversight.

Romualdez emphasized that accountability is bigger than personalities and stressed the importance of protecting public funds.

“This issue is bigger than personalities. It is about safeguarding the people’s money and ensuring that every bridge, road and flood control project truly serves the Filipino people,” he said.

The Speaker added that the House will work as a “co-equal partner” with the President, building not just infrastructure but a “Bagong Pilipinas” grounded in honesty, accountability, and public trust.
