The public can count on a transparent and honest series of nationwide public consultations for the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Act, reported RH 12 Milky Rigonan on Thursday.
The first regional hearing was held in Carmona City, Cavite, with over 1,500 representatives from the youth sector, barangay officials, and non-government organizations in attendance to give their input.
According to House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reform Chair Zia Alonto Adiong, sovereignty comes from the people, so their voices must be heard before the law is finalized.
In House Speaker Faustino Dy III’s message, he assured that it is the Congress’ responsibility to hear out all sorts of perspectives, experiences, and thoughts from Filipinos in various parts of the country.
Included in the primary matters discussed in the consultation was the scope of the relationships covered by the bill and which positions in government should be limited.
Dy said that this was to ensure that the law to be adopted would be just—displacing power from known political clans and giving others a chance to serve.
At present, 24 bills against political dynasties have been filed before the House of Representatives to limit clans in government offices.
