Sen. Risa Hontiveros said on Friday that she is still weighing the possibility of running for president in the 2028 national elections, adding that she expects to make a decision within the year or by the first quarter of 2027.
In an interview on DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan, Hontiveros said she is currently focused on strengthening her potential candidacy amid calls from supporters urging her to seek the presidency.
The senator noted that she is among several figures within their political bloc preparing for a possible run, likening the situation to an internal selection process similar to primaries.
Hontiveros also underscored the importance of unity among their ranks, saying their group must rally behind the strongest candidate to improve their chances in the elections.
The 2028 national elections are expected to draw a wide field of candidates, with several political groups already signaling early preparations.
