Senator Risa Hontiveros says she remains open and willing to run for president or vice president in the 2028 elections.

In a press conference on Monday, February 9, the senator said she will run for president if chosen by the united opposition.

“I remain open, I remain willing. At ‘yung kundisyon ko ay tulad nung matagal ko na ring sinasabi: kung piliin ng united opposition. Kasi ‘yun din ang sinasabi ko na rin na matagal na,” she explained.

“Kailangan ng oposisyon kung lalaban kami sa 2028, ‘yun yung intensyon o desire ko na lalaban kami sa 2028, na mag-alok sa ating mamamayan ng pinakamalakas at credible na kandidato,” she added.

When asked to clarify which position she would run for, Hontiveros said she is willing to take on any task that the united opposition would ask for.

“Kung magkaisa kami sa usaping 2028, palagay ko ‘yun ang magpapalakas ng tyansa namin and kung sino ang bubuoin naming team or slate para doon, susuportahan ko ‘yon. Nakataya akong gawin ang lahat para mag materialize ang ganyang scenario. United opposition, strong candidacies,” the senator emphasized.

Moreover, Hontiveros said the united opposition she is trying to build up is a work in progress, highlighting that she is hopeful about its outcome.

One of the objectives that Hontiveros and the united opposition are aiming for is good governance.

“‘Yung pag modernize ng pulitika natin kaya nagbubuhos din kami sa anti-Political Dynasty. Hindi lang opposiiton by the way…for the first time may supportive voices kahit mula sa non-opposition forces, kahit pagbibigay solusyon sa mga economic problems, yung usapin ng totoong pagkakaisa din, very concerned din kami dyan dahil supper polarized, divided ‘yung ating lipunan,” she stated.

For now, the senator said she remains focused on the task at hand, emphasizing her role as a senator-judge.
