Sen. Risa Hontiveros said she is “seriously preparing and considering” a possible bid in the 2028 presidential elections, reaffirming her openness to seek the country’s top post.

In a statement, Hontiveros said she remains willing to take on the responsibility of running for president, noting that discussions within her political bloc are ongoing as they assess their strongest possible candidate.

“Ilang beses ko naman sinabi na bukas at willing ako gawin yung tungkuling iyon. Right now seryosong pinaghahandaan at kino-consider yung possibility na ‘yon.”

Her remarks come as incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte has earlier signaled her intention to run for president in 2028.

Hontiveros said unity among reform-oriented and opposition groups will remain a priority, stressing that she is prepared to support whoever emerges as the strongest contender from their ranks.

“As from the start, ang magiging posisyon ko pa rin ay magkaisa kami para suportahan whether ako o iba pa mula sa hanay namin,” she said.

The senator also disclosed that efforts are underway to build a senatorial slate for the upcoming midterm elections, alongside preparations for a complete lineup for the general elections.

She said she has been in continuous talks with allies from reform, opposition, and “modernizing forces” since 2022 to consolidate support and form a cohesive slate.

Hontiveros added that her group is currently focused on strengthening its own ranks before engaging with other political groups.

“Ang unang tungkulin namin ay ayusin ang sarili namin, ang aming bakuran. So that any other groups na maaaring lumapit, if they do, they would find us timely, ready, strong,” she said.
